objects CAN articulate what we hold between us: distance, narrative, intimacy.
They position bodies around one another, highlighting not just individuals but the spaces between them.
Drawing from the shared resources of our campus collections, a set of monumental lithographs by the artist Marisol (1930-2016) enters into a dialogue with selections from our Zine Collection. One is fixed to the wall, human scale, and behind glass; the other sprawls across a communal table with an invitation to touch, arrange, and watch. As visitors navigate this space, we invite them to explore connections between hands, pages, shapes, and words.
We are pleased to share this exhibition drawing from the College’s on-campus resources. The Hampshire College Art Gallery has been a space for creative experimentation since Hampshire admitted its first students in 1970 and provides a platform for presenting visual arts and transdisciplinary installations at the heart of campus. Our program includes two annual exhibitions alongside a fall and spring program of student Division III projects. In our Gallery, artists engage urgent questions and experimental forms of making.
Support for framing provided by Hope and Feathers Framing (Amherst, MA). This exhibition is organized by Lorenzo Conte. Thanks to the members of our Hampshire community who helped prepare the Gallery: Rachel Beckwith, Jen Bolmarcich, John Bruner, Nebraska Chatham, Maya Flowers, Eliza Gelinas, Natane Halasz, Suzanne Karanikis, Tatjana Mackin, Taylor Ortiz, Cynthia Parizo, Matt Spring, and Shaun Trujillo.
