With Hampshire College’s closure, the Hampshire College Art Gallery is also transitioning to closure and a final fall semester of operations. The Gallery’s curated exhibition program will conclude on June 16, 2026, and the Gallery’s Director, Lorenzo Conte, will depart, along with most faculty and staff (you can learn more about how to support Hampshire employees here).
What comes next? In Fall 2026, Hampshire student artists will continue to make ambitious work—some on campus, others across the Valley and beyond. The resources the Gallery has developed will remain available to them, and students will take over the Gallery’s Instagram to share and promote their exhibitions.
Many hands have shaped this space and its program over the decades. Thank you to each and every person who has taken part, and thanks to you for supporting the Gallery’s exhibitions, programs, and artists over the years.

A SPACE FOR CREATIVE EXPERIMENTATION SINCE 1970
In our Gallery, artists engage urgent questions and experimental forms of making.
Located on the ground floor of the Harold F. Johnson Library, the Gallery has been a hub for the arts and trans-disciplinary exploration since Hampshire College admitted its first students in 1970. Our program includes two annual exhibitions alongside a regular rotation of Hampshire College Division III exhibitions.
